The Olenjok ( Russian Оленёк ) is a 2292 km long river in the Krasnoyarsk region and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Northern Siberia (Northern Russia , Asia ).

course

The Olenjok rises in the northeast part of the Central Siberian Mountains on the Anabar plateau . Its source is located about 200 km north of the village Ekonda, which lies on the river Vilyui , which runs further south .

By Russian standards, a few kilometers below its origin, the river reaches the Sakha Republic, located in Russia, in which it flows through the mountains in a winding direction, first in an easterly and then in a north-easterly direction. In its lower reaches it enters the eastern areas of the North Siberian Lowlands , where it flows west past the Czekanowskibergen .

After flowing through the lowlands, it flows into the Laptev Sea , a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean, about 220 km west of the Lena Delta in a 475 km² estuary north of Ust-Olenjok on the Olenjok Bay .

Tributaries

The Olenjok tributaries include: Arga-Sala , Bur , Ukukit , Birekte , Kuoika , Bejentschime , Buolkalach and Siligir .

Navigability and Locations

The fish-rich Olenjok is navigable from Suchana over a distance of around 965 km . On its banks , viewed downstream, lie the towns of Olenjok , Suchana, Taimilyr , Sklad , Buolkalach and Ust-Olenjok .
