Andover (also City of Andover ) is a city in Anoka County in the US state of Minnesota . It is located in the north of the metropolitan region of the Twin Cities and has around 30,000 inhabitants.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of ​​the city is 90.6 square kilometers, of which 1.7 square kilometers is water. Crooked Lake to the south is the only larger lake in the Andover metropolitan area, but is mostly in Coon Rapids .

history

The origins of the current city of Andover date back to 1857. The Round Lake Township was founded there. 1860 the name was in honor of Senator Galusha A. Grow in Grow Township changed. At the time, the population was about 330. However, the area also included parts of what is now Ham Lake . When population growth began to increase in the second half of the 20th century, the township was first converted into a village in 1972. It was decided that this should be given a new name. The historically significant name "Andover" was chosen. Two years later, Andover also received city rights. In the 2000 census, the city already had 26,588 inhabitants, later the limit of 30,000 inhabitants was exceeded.

According to the 2000 census, Andover has 26,588 people in 8,107 households and 7,150 families. The population density is 301 inhabitants per km². Ethnically speaking, the population is made up of around 96.5 percent white population and smaller minorities.

Children under the age of 18 live in 55.1% of the 8,107 households, married couples in 80.0%, female singles in 5.5% and 11.8% are not family households. 8.4% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 2.3% are single people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 3.28 people, that of families 3.48.
