Columbus is a city in Anoka County , Minnesota , USA. According to the US Census , it had 3914 inhabitants in 2010.
history
Columbus Township was formed in 1856 until Columbus was founded as a city on September 21, 2006. This came in response to concerns that the neighboring town of Forest Lake was planning to annex parts of the township.
In April 2008, the Running Aces Harness Park 5/8 mile racecourse opened in Columbus .
The first mayor of Columbus, Mel Mettler, was re-elected in November 2008. He held office until 2010 and before his time mayor was planning officer, city council member and city council chairman. He was followed by Dave Povolny. Jesse Preiner has been mayor since 2018.
geography
The city has a total area of 47.27 square miles (123.70 km²), of which 44.92 square miles (116.34 km²) is land and 2.84 square miles (7.36 km²) is water , according to the United States Census Bureau .
The major roads in the community are Anoka County Roads 18, 19, 23, 54, and 62. On southeast Columbus, Interstate 35 splits into Interstates 35E and 35W . The junction is commonly referred to as Forest Lake Split , after which the town east of it was named.
The Rice Creek River runs through the city. To the north and west of Columbus is the Carlos Avery Wildlife Area.

2010 census
According to the 2010 census , 3,914 people lived in 1,416 households in the city and there were 1,119 families. The population density was 87.1 people per square mile (33.6 / km 2 ). There were a total of 1,464 housing units at an average density of 32.6 per square mile (12.6 / km 2 ). The ethnic distribution of the city's population was 93.6% White , 0.7% African American , 0.06% Native American , 3.6% Asian , 0.1% Pacific Islander , 0.2% from other races and 1.2% were descended from two or more races. The proportion of Hispanics or Latinos in the population was 1.6%.
