Columbia Heights is located in the northern suburbs of the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul , not far from the east bank of the Mississippi . The city is located at 45 ° 02'00 "north latitude and 93 ° 16'00" west longitude and extends over 9.12 km², which is spread over 8.83 km² of land and 0.29 km² of water.
In addition to Hilltop , which is completely enclosed by the urban area of Columbia Heights, other neighboring towns are Fridley (on the western and northeastern city limits), New Brighton (7.5 km northeast), St. Anthony (on the southeastern city limit) and Minneapolis (on the southern city limits).

history
On March 14, 1898, the place was spun off from what was then Fridley Township . The name of the newly created community (with the then community status " Village ") was determined through a competition.
On July 21, 1921, a new municipal constitution was passed and the municipality was given " City " status.
