Ham Lake is a city in Anoka County in the US state of Minnesota . It is located in the north of the metropolitan region of the Twin Cities and has around 13,000 inhabitants.

Ham Lake is located on Minnesota State Route 65 , approximately 20 miles north of Minneapolis . According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 13.6 square kilometers, of which 0.4 square kilometers is water. Larger lakes in the urban area of Ham Lake are Ham Lake in the center of town as well as Lake Netta and the southern part of Coon Lake .
history
The earliest records go back to 1855 when a group of immigrants settled in the southern part of today's urban area. The place was called Glen Cary , which means "beautiful valley" in Scottish. During a fire in 1857, however, the settlement was completely destroyed and the residents left the place. In 1866 immigrants settled again - mainly Scandinavians - and later changed the name to Ham Lake . Ham Lake Township was founded in 1871 and was granted city rights in January 1974.

According to the 2000 census, Ham Lake has 12,710 people in 4,139 households and 3,472 families. The population density is 142.4 inhabitants per km². Racially, the population is made up of 97 percent white population and smaller minorities.
