Centerville is in the north of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area . To the west of the city are the two lakes Peltier Lake and Centerville Lake . history

Centerville was settled by French-Canadian immigrants in the middle of the 19th century and founded as a town in 1954 (official establishment August 11, 1857). The name came about because of the central location between St. Paul , Stillwater and Anoka . German immigrants also settled in Centerville. Therefore, the place was originally divided into two areas: the west, where numerous Germans had settled and the French-influenced town center.

Greater population growth did not begin until the end of the 20th century. In the 1990 census, with 1633 inhabitants, the limit of one thousand was exceeded for the first time, and in 2000 the city already had 3202 inhabitants.
