András Veres (born November 30, 1959 in Nyírbátor ) is a Hungarian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Győr .

Life

After graduating from high school, András Veres studied Catholic theology at the Benedictine high school in Győr , first at the pre-seminary of the Archdiocese of Eger and then in Budapest . From 1983 to 1988 he continued his studies at the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum in Rome , where he obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana . On August 2, 1986 he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Eger.

In 1989 he was at the Theological Academy in Budapest for Dr. theol. PhD .

Pope . John Paul II appointed him on November 5, 1999 titular bishop of Cissa and auxiliary bishop in Eger and donated him on 6 January 2000 in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re and Marcello Zago .

On June 20, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed András Veres as the successor of István Konkoly as Bishop of Szombathely .

In spring 2011, after Mihály Mayer's resignation, Veres also headed the diocese of Pécs for three months as Apostolic Administrator .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Győr on May 17, 2016 . The inauguration took place on July 16 of the same year.
