André Pinheiro de Lara Resende (born April 24, 1951 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian banker , economist and former racing driver .

Education and professional career

André Lara Resende was born as the son of the Brazilian writer Otto Lara Resende . After completing compulsory school, he studied economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro . He received his doctorate in philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge , a suburb of Boston .

André Lara Resende was one of the founding partners of the Banco Matrix and financial advisor to President José Sarney, who ruled from 1985 to 1990 . For many years he was director of the Central Bank of Brazil and special advisor to President Fernando Henrique Cardoso .

In April 1998 he became president of the Brazilian Development Bank , but had to resign in November of the same year. He was accused of being involved in the corrupt proceedings, which are now pending in court, in connection with the privatization of the Telebrás telephone company . Charges have been brought. In 2007 he was acquitted of all allegations by a federal court in the last instance.

After leaving the civil service, he founded an investment company.

Racing career

André Lara Resende ran motorsport as a men's driver and was quite successful in doing so. Twice, in 1996 and 2001 , he won the overall classification of the Mil Milhas Brasileiras endurance race, which is popular in Brazil . In 1997 he won together with Antônio de Azevedo Hermann at the 500 km race in Interlagos . He competed three times in the Daytona 24 Hours and in 1997 for Larbre Compétition also in the Le Mans 24 Hours . The Porsche 911 GT2 , which he drove with his partners Patrick Bourdais and Peter Kitchak , failed due to a gearbox failure.
