Andrés Casillas de Alba

Andrés Casillas de Alba (born July 10, 1934 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican architect.

biography

Casillas studied from 1952 to 1955 at the Escuela de Arquitectura de Guadalajara and then until 1956 at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City. A year later he went to Ulm to study further until 1961 at the Hochschule für Gestaltung . During this time in 1958 he also worked on urban planningprojects for the Iranian city of Isfahan and completed an internship at the Mangiarotti e Morassutti architectural office in Milan in 1959 .

In Mexico he worked from 1962 to 1963 with Augusto H. Álvarez and then from 1964 and until 1968 with Luis Barragán , then from 1969 independently. His first building in Mexico was built while he was still working for Álvarez, the Galería de Arte Mexicano .

He has been a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA) since 1994 and has received several awards for his designs, including the 1994 annual prize from Architecten Jaliscos .
