Andreas Ferbert (* 1951 in Worms ) is a German neurologist , psychologist and neurological expert. From 1992 to 2017, Ferbert was director of the neurological clinic at the Kassel Clinic and during this time expanded it to become one of supraregional importance. From 2001 to 2003 he was medical director and medical director of the Kassel Clinic. Ferbert is a member of the board of the German Society for Neuroscientific Assessment and has been teaching as an adjunct professor at RWTH Aachen University since 1993 .

Career

Andreas Ferbert studied medicine and psychology at the University of Düsseldorf and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In his senior year 1979, he passed the state examination in medicine, the diploma examination in psychology and received his doctorate at the Institute for Neuropathology at the University of Bonn.

Then Ferbert practiced as an assistant doctor in the psychiatry of the Rheinische Landesklinik Bonn as well as the RWTH Aachen, neurosurgery ( University of Cologne ), neuroradiology (University of Bonn) and neurology (RWTH Aachen). After completing his specialist training (doctor for neurology and psychiatry), he joined the neurological clinic of RWTH Aachen University as a senior physician in 1986 . In 1988 he completed his habilitation in neurology on the subject of "Evoked Potentials in the Diagnosis of Severe Brainstem Insults".

During his time as senior physician at Neurology Aachen (from October 1986 to July 1992), Ferbert also carried out research on a DFG scholarship from 1989 to 1990 at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, UK (under Marsden and Rothwell).

In 1992 Ferbert was elected director of the neurological clinic at the Kassel Clinic. He held this position for 25 years until his retirement. During this time, Ferbert was also the medical director and medical director of the Kassel Clinic (2001 to 2003). During his clinical work, Ferbert prepared expert opinions for various areas of law in his area of ​​expertise.

In addition to medicine, Ferbert also studied music for the violoncello in Detmold . During this time he was a member of the Tibor Varga Chamber Orchestra , a member of the Young German Philharmonic and in 1973 a member of the World Youth Orchestra in Israel under Zubin Mehta .

In addition to his clinical work, Ferbert took on various positions in medical-scientific specialist societies and institutions. As a member of the commission of the German Medical Association, he was involved in the revision of the brain death guidelines from 2013 to 2015.
