Andreas Hildebrandt

Andreas Hildebrandt (* between 1681 and 1691 in Danzig ; † 1762 there ) was a Baroque organ builder from Danzig .

Life

Andreas Hildebrandt was probably born as the son of the businessman Andreas and his wife Adelgunde Hildebrandt. Konath was born in Gdansk. Here his father acquired citizenship in 1676, which obliged him to marry. After several fines, the marriage followed on April 13, 1681. The widow married again in 1691. The organ builder Andreas Hildebrandt married the widow Maria Elisabeth Reiss on April 13, 1710. Falckenberg († 1739). For her it was already the third marriage in which she brought at least two step-sons. She was married to the organ builder Tobias Lehmann until 1707 and to Matthias Reiss until 1709. The Hildebrandt family lived in Danziger Breitgasse and belonged to the Reformed Church of St. Elisabeth . Joint work with Hildebrandt's stepson Gottfried Matthias Reiss has been documented for the years 1734 to 1736. On March 25, 1711, the son Andreas Gottlieb was baptized in the Evangelical Reformed Church of St. Peter and Paul. He learned the trade of pewter and in 1740 married the wealthy widow Philippine de la Port b. Glad (1701–1781). After the death of his first wife in the late 1730s, Andreas Hildebrandt married Adelgunde nee. Braschke, used Anthony (1720–1795), the daughter of a tin caster. The marriage had a daughter in 1740 and a daughter Maria Elisabeth in 1743, both of whom did not live long. After Hildebrandt's death, his master student Friedrich Rudolf Dalitz took over the workshop.

Almost 50 organ works by Hildebrandt are documented in the period from 1709 to 1755, including at least 19 new organs. The three preserved organs in Pruszcz Gdański (Praust), Jelonki (Hirschfeld) and Pasłęk (Prussian Holland) are only parts of three other organs. The organ in Pasłęk has been restored to its original state and is the largest organ in northern Poland from the 18th century.

The organs from Hildebrandt's early days are similar to those of Arp Schnitger's later days . No relationships between the workshops have yet been established, but Hildebrandt completed his organ in Koszalin (Köslin) after the death of Schnitger's pupil Johann Balthasar Held in 1709 . Hildebrandt's organs are characterized by high quality craftsmanship, well thought-out arrangements and a representative brochure design .

Christoph Heinrich Obuch completed his organ building apprenticeship with Hildebrandt in 1733. Another student was Friedrich Rudolf Dalitz, who became Hildebrandt's successor. Hildebrandt was at times in competition with Johann Josua Mosengel , with whom he led a legal dispute with regard to the construction of the new organ in Pasłęk, as he had an organ privilege.
