Andreas Kreul

Andreas Kreul (born June 23, 1961 in Bottrop ) is a German art historian , director of the collection of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation in Bremen and honorary professor at the University of Bremen.

Life

Kreul studied art history, general and comparative literature and German at the Ruhr University Bochum (1980–1986), Magister Artium 1986, dissertation in 1988 on Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach with Max Imdahl . From 1988 to 1989 he was at the Kunstring Folkwang in Essen and from 1989 to 1992 research assistant at the Kunsthalle Bremen . From 1992 to 2016 he was a lecturer in art history at the University of Bremen and from 1992 to 2012 he was curator for the paintings of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as the sculptures, coins and medals from the 16th to the 21st centuries at the Kunsthalle Bremen. Since 2012 he has been director of the collection of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg Foundation in Bremen and since 2016 honorary professor for art history at the University of Bremen. He has published numerous articles and curated exhibitions on the baroque, Japanese woodblock prints, classical modernism and contemporary art, including John Cage , Lovis Corinth , Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach , Luca Giordano , Wolfgang Hainke , Richard Hamilton , Martin Honert , Ilya Kabakov , William Kentridge , Max Liebermann , André Masson , Bjørn Melhus , Richard Oelze , Jörg Sasse , Mark Tobey and Wols .
