Andi Maile

Andreas "Andi" Maile (born August 8, 1964 in Stuttgart ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , soprano saxophone ).

Life

Andi Maile studied with James Towsey and Wolfgang Engstfeld in Cologne and played in the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer and in the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion (since 1989). Since 1992 he has been a permanent member of the SDR Big Band, now - merged - the SWR Big Band . There he accompanied Max Greger , Hugo Strasser and Paul Kuhn ; his colleagues in the orchestra included Manny Albam , Bill Holman , Frank Foster and Jens Winther .

Maile also performed successfully with Charly Antolini's Jazz Power, with the WDR Big Band and the German Jazz Orchestra from Jiggs Whigham . The award-winning Gregor Huebner quintet he worked with Tim Hagans and Harvie S , but also played with Benny Bailey , Don Menza , Claudio Roditi , the Timeless Art Orchestra of Klaus Graf and Alexander's Swing Time Band with Benny Waters .

In 1998 he published his CD "Mailensteine" (with Olaf Stötzler, Nicolas Thys and Patrick Manzecchi ). In 1996 Maile was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize.
