Andreas Reinicke

Andreas Reinicke (born February 3, 1955 in Bielefeld ) is a German diplomat and has been an ambassador to Tunisia since 2014 . Previously, he was from 2012 to 2013 EU Special Representative for the peace process in the Middle East .

Life

After graduating from high school , Reinicke studied law at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen from 1974 to 1980 . In 1986 he earned a Master of Laws at the University of Cambridge and laid in 1990 at the University of Giessen his promotion to Dr. jur. with a dissertation on The Appropriate Use of Common Natural Goods: A Study on International Environmental Law .

He then joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his career test, found jobs at the headquarters of the Foreign Office and at various missions abroad . From 2001 to 2004 he was Head of the Representation Office at the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah .

Since 2008 Andreas Reinicke has succeeded Volkmar Wenzel , who in turn became ambassador to Saudi Arabia , ambassador to Syria .

On February 1, 2012, he succeeded Marc Otte as the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process for a mandate that lasted until June 30, 2013 . In this role he supports the work of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy , Catherine Ashton .

The post of Ambassador to Syria has been vacant since the post of EU Special Representative was accepted. Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said on February 6, 2012: "I am not currently thinking about filling this position."

At the beginning of 2014, Reinicke was delegated as ambassador to Tunisia , where he replaced Jens Plötner .

Reinicke has two children.
