Andreas Schulz (lighting designer)

Andreas Schulz (born July 18, 1959 ) is a German engineer , lighting designer , entrepreneur and professor of lighting design. He is the founder and managing director of the lighting planning office ( Licht Kunst Licht AG Bonn / Berlin) and one of the leading lighting designers on a national and international level.

Life

Schulz studied electrical engineering in Cologne from 1983 to 1989 and graduated with a degree in engineering . After completing his studies, he worked in the field of film lighting at the WDR in Cologne and from 1989 to 1991 began postgraduate studies in the fields of light and lighting design at the Technological Institute in Ilmenau. During this study he worked as a project manager in the Cologne light planning office lighting design. In 1991 Schulz founded the lighting design office Licht Kunst Licht at the same time in both Berlin and Bonn . Since then, he and his interdisciplinary planning team of lighting designers, architects , interior designers , product designers and electrical engineers have worked on over 800 projects at home and abroad. The field of work includes a wide variety of construction projects ( museums , office and administration buildings, state projects, cultural buildings, hotels and restaurants , retail and media facades, light art and master plans).

Public work

Schulz has been advising state institutions and authorities on lighting and energy issues since 2007 and has been a member of the Berlin Lighting Advisory Board since 2008 as an advisor to the Senate Building Director Regula Lüscher and co-author of the “Berlin Lighting Concept ”. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) and has been Chair of the IALD Europe Steering Committee since 2015.

Teaching

From 2001 to 2002 he was a visiting professor for lighting design at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences and has been a founding professor for lighting design (Faculty of Design) at the University of Applied Sciences and Art (HAWK) in Hildesheim since 2002 .
