Andrej Komac (born December 4, 1979 in Šempeter pri Gorici , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Slovenian football player .
Career
society
Komac began his professional career in 1997 not far from his home town at HIT Gorica . The central midfielder made his first appearances in professional football for the Slovenian first division team . After a year Komac moved to the former league competitor NK Primorje , where he developed into a regular player. In summer 2001 he decided to sign a contract with the capital club NK Olimpija Ljubljana . After a rather unsatisfied season for the player, Komac returned to Primorye for the 2002/03 season, where he was again one of the top performers in the team. In 2004 he followed the call of his home club, which has since been renamed ND Gorica. Komac defended the title with the then Slovenian champions in 2005 and reached the final for the national cup in 2005 , which was lost 0: 1 against audience Celje . In the summer of 2005 he ventured abroad, where he joined the Portuguese club Marítimo Funchal . After a short interlude, Komac moved back to Gorica during the 2005/06 winter break, where he was able to win the championship again.
Just six months later, the midfielder moved abroad again. For the Swedish second half of the 2006 season Komac signed with Djurgårdens IF . At the eleven-time Swedish champion at the time, the Slovenian was part of the permanent staff right from the start. Only when his contract was not extended in 2009 did he move to Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel . In his first season with the record champions, Komac fought steadily for a place in the top team. He made his debut in the Ligat ha'Al on the 2nd match day of the season, August 29, 2009, against Hapoel Petah Tikva , when coach Avi Nimni replaced him in the 69th minute for Yossi Shivhon.
This was followed by other positions at Ruch Chorzów , ND Gorica and FC Treviso , where he ended his career in 2013.
National team
Komac went through various junior national teams in Slovenia before he was appointed to their senior squad for the first time in 2004 . In May 2010 he was nominated by national coach Matjaž Kek for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. It is only Slovenia's second participation in a World Cup. Komac was used six times in the ten decisive qualifying games. At the World Cup itself, Pečnik was substituted on in two preliminary round matches .
