Andrew Cardinal Yeom Soo-jung ( Korean : 염수정 ; * December 5, 1943 in Anseong , today's South Korea ) is a South Korean clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Seoul .

Life

Andrew Yeom Soo-jung received the sacrament of ordination for the Archbishopric of Seoul on December 8, 1973 through the Archbishop of Seoul, Stephen Cardinal Kim Sou-hwan .

On 1 December 2001 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Thibiuca and auxiliary bishop in Seoul. The Archbishop of Seoul, Nicholas Cardinal Cheong Jin-suk , donated him episcopal ordination on January 25, 2002 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Gwangju , Andreas Choi Chang-mou , and Bishop of Chuncheon , John Chang-yik . On May 10, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Seoul. The inauguration took place on June 25 of the same year.

In the solemn consistory of February 22, 2014, Pope Francis accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Crisogono in the college of cardinals .

Yeom is also the Apostolic Administrator of Pyongyang . On May 21, 2014, he was the first cardinal to visit North Korea when he and five other Catholic priests traveled to the industrial region of Kaesng.
