Andrija Fuderer

Andrija Fuderer (born May 13, 1931 in Subotica ; † October 2, 2011 in Palamós ) was a Yugoslav chess player who was later eligible to play for Belgium .

Life

Andrija Fuderer, born in Subotica in 1931, played for the Yugoslav team at the Chess Olympiads in 1952 , 1954 and 1958 and at the 1957 European Team Championship in Baden . In 1951 he was shared second with Borislav Milic behind O'Kelly de Galway in Dortmund . In 1953 he reached the shared 1st place in the Yugoslav Championship. He qualified for the interzonal tournament in Gothenburg in 1955, where he finished 14/15. Space. In the competition between Yugoslavia and USSR in 1959, he won against Bronstein 3-1. The chess federation FIDE awarded him the title of International Master in 1952  , and in 1990 the title of Honorary Grand Master .

After the failure in Gothenburg, he largely withdrew from chess and focused on his professional career as a chemist.

Fuderer was considered a talented attacking player. He achieved his best historical Elo rating of 2674 in January 1955, placing him in 19th place in the subsequently calculated world rankings.
