Andrew James Dalrymple "Andy" Gill ( January 1, 1956 in Manchester - February 1, 2020 ) was a British musician and record producer . He was the lead guitarist of the British rock band Gang of Four , which he co-founded in 1976. On music albums like Entertainment! (1979) and Solid Gold (1981) and hit singles like, At Home He's a Tourist , Damaged Goods , Anthrax , What We All Want and I Love a Man in a Uniform, Gill was known for his jagged guitar style.

In addition to his work with Gang of Four as guitarist and producer, Gill also co-produced albums by other bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers , The Jesus Lizard , The Stranglers , The Futureheads , Michael Hutchence , Killing Joke , Polysics , Fight Like Apes, Therapy? and The Young Knives .

life and death

Gill was married to Catherine Mayer, a journalist. Gill's death was officially announced by members of his band on February 1, 2020. He was 64 years old. The spokesman for his band told The New York Times that the cause of death was multiple organ failure and pneumonia . In November 2019, Gill was on a music tour in China . Therefore, it is believed that he was an early victim of the COVID-19 pandemic .
