Andy McKee (bassist)
Andy McKee (actually: Andrew G. McKee * 11. November 1953 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz - bassist .
Life
McKee's early years mentor was Philly Joe Jones ; he began his career with Walt Dickerson ( To My Queen Revisited 1979). In 1983 he joined the Jazz Machine by Elvin Jones at New York's Village Vanguard on. In the mid-1980s he lived in France, where he worked with Michel Petrucciani and appeared on two albums; from 1992 to 2003 he was a member of the Mingus Big Band ( Gunslinging Birds ). He also worked on recordings by Barry Altschul ( That's Nice , Soul Note 1986) and Doudou Gouirand ( Forgotten Tales 1985 featuring Don Cherry ). Under his own name, he released the albums Good Roots ( Mapleshade Records , 1997; with Ed Cherry ) and One World (Consolidated Artists 2002), the latter with Joe Locke , Alex Foster , Idris Muhammad , Badal Roy and Milton Cardona . With Manolo Badrena and Dave Stryker he formed the Trio Mundo , which recorded the Grammy- nominated album Carnaval in 2002 , followed by Trio Mundo Rides Again in 2004.
