Angel Romero (born August 17, 1946 in Málaga ) is a Spanish guitarist - known as a member of the Los Romeros - and conductor.

Career

The son of Celedonio Romero and youngest brother Celin and Pepe Romero debuted as a guitarist at the age of six years in the family guitar quartet and had, after moving the age of twelve his family moved to Santa Barbara, California, in 1964 with the Concierto de Aranjuez be USA debut at the Hollywood Bowl . In addition to his appearances as a member of the Los Romeros , the classical guitar virtuoso has worked with major symphony orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic Orchestra , the Cleveland Orchestra , the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Concertgebouw Orchestra . In the 1980s he recorded Claude Bolling's Concerto for guitar and jazz piano trio with pianist George Shearing . In the late 1980s and early 1990s Romero turned to film music. He played the theme music in Robert Redford's The Milagro Bean Field War in 1989 . For the music for Gabriele Rete's film Bienvenido-Welcome , which opened the Muestra del Cine Mexico , the Guadalajara film festival in 1995 , he received the Premio Ariel for the best original film music in the same year . In 2000 he was knighted by King Juan Carlos of the Order of Isabel la Catolica and raised to the nobility.

Since 2000 Romero has concentrated on the activity as a conductor. He worked with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and became Principal Guest Conductor of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra in 2002 , and in the same year he also conducted the London Symphony Orchestra . In 2005 he became artist in residence at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido and musical director of the Orquesta de Baja California .
