Anicetus Andrew Wang Chong-yi

Anicetus Andrew Wang Chong-yi ( Chinese  王充 一 , Pinyin Wáng Chōngyī ; born October 26, 1919 in the village of Huanggoushu near Zhenning , Guizhou Province , Republic of China ; † April 20, 2017 in the large community of Huanggoushu, People's Republic of China ) was a Roman Catholic bishop of the Archdiocese of Guiyang in the People's Republic of China.

Life

Wang Chong-yi came from a Catholic family and attended the boys' seminary in Guiyang , the capital of Guizhou Province in southwest China, and entered the Saint Paul seminary . He was ordained a priest on October 24, 1949 and worked in pastoral care in Meitan and Zunyi .

He was arrested during the Cultural Revolution and sentenced to nine years of forced labor in a labor camp. He was only allowed to work as a pastor again in 1979.

On December 4, 1988, Anicetus Andrew Wang Chong-yi was ordained Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Guiyang in Beijing . He was a member of the State Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association ; however, his episcopal ordination was confirmed by the Holy See during his tenure as Archbishop . His age-related resignation was accepted by Pope Francis on March 4, 2015 . He was succeeded by Paul Xiao Zeijiang .

He died in Huanggoushu Town Hospital at the age of 98 and was buried in Guiyang Cathedral.
