Anita Gara (born March 4, 1983 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian chess master .

Single successes

Anita Gara was named International Women's Champion (WIM) in 1997, in 2001 she received the title of Women's Chess Grandmaster (WGM) and in 2009 the title of International Master (IM). She had fulfilled the required IM standards in April 2003 at First Saturday in Budapest, in October 2004 at the Chess Olympiad in Calvià and in November 2008 at the TENKES Kupa Open in Harkány .

Anita Gara became Hungarian women's champion in 2000, 2001, 2009, 2013, 2016 and 2017 and won the WGM tournament of the Gold Cup in Szombathely in 2004 . With her best Elo rating of 2405 in January 2005, Anita Gara took 51st place in the FIDE world rankings for women and first place in the Hungarian women’s ranking for women active at the time.

Team chess

National team

Anita Gara took part in eight women's chess Olympiads with Hungary in 2000 , 2002 , 2004, 2006 , 2012 , 2014 , 2016 and 2018 , scoring 45 points from 72 games. At the European Women's Team Championships in 1997, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 , 2013, 2017 and 2019, she was part of the Hungarian selection and achieved 29 points from 50 games. In 2003 she reached second place with the team, in 2005 she came third in the individual ranking on the fourth board. Gara also took part in the 2019 Women's World Team Championship.

Club chess

Anita Gara has been playing in the NB I. Szabó László csoport , the highest Hungarian division, for the Budapest club Pénzügyőr Sport Egyesület since the 2009/10 season . Before that, she played in the 2001/02 season for Vízügyi SC and from the 2002/03 season for Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Erzsébetváros (until 2007 Postás MATÁV Sport Egyesület ), with whom she also took part in the European Women's Club Cup in 2005 . In the British Four Nations Chess League she played for Cambridge University in the 2008/09 and 2011/12 seasons . In France, Anita Gara played at Club d'Echecs d'Annemasse in the second highest division, Nationale I and in the top division of women, the top 12 . She became the French women's team champion in 2014 . In Germany, Anita Gara has been a member of SV Großhansdorf for many years (interrupted by the 2015/16 season in which she played for SG 1871 Löberitz in the Oberliga Ost) . Between 2000 and 2005 she also played in the women's national league, namely in the 2000/01 season at the Spielvereinigung Leipzig 1899 and in the 2001/02 , 2002/03 and 2004/05 seasons at USV Halle . Since the 2015/16 season she has also played in the second women's league with SG 1871 Löberitz.

Others

Her sister Tícia is also one of the top Hungarian women in women's chess and also holds the WGM title.
