Anke Schönfelder

Anke Schönfelder (born October 2, 1975 in Berlin ) is a former German gymnast .

Life

Schönfelder grew up in the GDR and was there in 1989 the last junior champion, in the seniors she was third out of competition. In 1990 she took part in the European Championships in Athens and landed in 41st place in the all- around competition. After reunification , in 1991 she became the first all-German female champion in the all- around competition and in her favorite discipline, the balance beam . At the subsequent World Championships in Indianapolis , she was tenth with the German team.

In 1992 Schönfelder won silver in the all-around and balance beam at the German championships and took part in the European championships in Nantes , where she reached 40th place in the eight-fight. The highlight of the year was the Olympic Games in Barcelona , where she finished ninth with the German team. After that, she had a longer break due to two hand operations.

She made her comeback in 1994. At the German Championships, which took place as part of the German Gymnastics Festival in Hamburg , she achieved third place on the balance beam and on the floor. The world championships were in Dortmund this year in Germany . There she finished 13th with the German squad. After the DTB-Turn-Gala in Stuttgart , she ended her career at the end of the year. In the mid-1990s she was asked to testify as part of a doping investigation . As a result, she learned from the old GDR files that she had been doped when she was thirteen.

After her turn career Schoenfelder went 1995 on Alba Berlin Dance Team and was until 2010 senior trainer. Between 1997 and 1999 she was national gymnastics coach in South Africa and Namibia for one year . She also studied psycholinguistics and African studies .
