Maria Anna Josepha Francisca Gottlieb , called Nannerl Gottlieb (born April 29, 1774 in Vienna ; † February 4, 1856 there ) was an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ) and the first Pamina in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Magic Flute .

Life

Anna Gottlieb was born as one of four daughters of the actor Johann Christoph Gottlieb (* 1737) and the opera singer Maria-Anna Theyner (* 1745 in Roßwald ; † 1798 in Vienna). She made her first public appearance at the age of five. At the age of twelve she played Barbarina in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Figaros Hochzeit .

At the age of fifteen she sang the role of Amande in Paul Wranitzky's opera Oberon, König der Elfen (in the lead role of Mozart's sister-in-law and later Queen of the Night Josepha Hofer , she introduced Anna to society). Her first engagement took place at Emanuel Schikaneder's Theater on the Wieden , where she mostly appeared in Singspiele (e.g. Nadine in The Philosopher's Stone ). In 1791, at the age of seventeen, Mozart selected her for the role of Pamina in his Magic Flute , and this became her greatest success.
