Depiction around 1655

Anna Katharina Dorothea von Salm-Kyrburg (born January 27, 1614 in Finstingen , † June 27, 1655 in Stuttgart ) was married to Duke Eberhard III. von Württemberg (1614–1674) Duchess of Württemberg .

Life

She was the eldest surviving daughter of Count Johann Kasimir von Salm-Kyrburg (1577-1651), a commander in the Swedish service and younger brother of the ruling Wild and Rhine Count Johann IX. von Kyrburg-Mörchingen , and his wife Countess Dorothea zu Solms-Laubach (1579–1631) born in Finstingen. As a soldier in the Thirty Years' War, he was often on the run with his family. From 1635 the family stayed in Strasbourg.

After the defeat of the Protestants in the Battle of Nördlingen on September 6, 1634, Württemberg was sacked and sacked. Duke Eberhard and his court fled into exile in Strasbourg . There he met Anna Katharina and married her on February 26, 1637. The marriage was viewed very critically by contemporaries because it seemed politically unwise with regard to the emperor and just in keeping with the bride's origin. The birth of the first child at the beginning of September was also likely to attract further attention. On October 30, 1638 the court moved back into Stuttgart.
