Anna Maria Sessi (after marriage: Neumann-Sessi ; * 1790 in Rome , † June 9, 1864 in Vienna ) was an Italian opera singer with a soprano voice .

Life

Anna Maria Sessi was one of five daughters of the singer Giovanni Sessi. She moved with her parents from Rome to Vienna at a young age. Her two older sisters Maria Anna and Impératrice , both with stage experience, gave her singing lessons. In 1805 she made her debut at the Vienna Court Opera . In order to further develop her voice, she returned to Italy, where she celebrated success as prima donna on the stages in Bologna , Florence and Naples . After the death of her sister Imperatrice in 1808, she returned to Vienna. There she married the merchant Ignaz Neumann in 1813, but without giving up her artistic career.

In 1815 she embarked on an artistic journey through Hungary and particularly to Germany, which took her to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in 1817 . In 1823 she fell dangerously ill, could be rescued, but lost her voice. She lived for some time in Hamburg as a singing teacher and spent her twilight years in Vienna.
