Life

Coffin (back) of Duchess Anna Maria, geb. Brandenburg

Anna Maria was a daughter of the Brandenburg Elector Johann Georg (1525–1598) from his second marriage to Sabina (1548–1575), daughter of Margrave Georg von Brandenburg-Ansbach .

She married Duke Barnim X of Pomerania (1540–1603) on January 8, 1581 in Berlin . The engagement had taken place the year before. As a Wittum , Anna Maria was given the office of Bütow on the Kashubian border. The couple's marriage remained childless. After Barnim took office, however, he left the office of Bütow to his brother Kasimir , which is why Anna Maria received the castle, office and city of Wollin as personal items .

After the death of her husband, Anna Maria lived in the castle in Wollin . Exact records exist of the Wollin office's income and expenses during her reign .; these fell short of the income of the Bütow office, which is why Anna Maria received additional financial compensation. She compared herself to Duke Bogislaw XIII. because of the hunting rights in their office. After Anna Maria's death, the Wittumsamt reverted to Duke Franz von Pomerania .
