Anna Sloan (born February 5, 1991 in Lockerbie ) is a Scottish curler . Most recently, she played on the position of third on Eve Muirhead's team .

Career

Sloan began her international career at the 2007 European Mixed Championship , where she played as a lead in Gordon Muirhead's Scottish team . The team reached fifth place. As the skip of Team Great Britain, she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2009 and won the gold medal there. Then she played partly as third in Eve Muirhead's team, but partly as the skip of her own team.

As the skip of Team Scotland, she finished seventh at the 2011 World Cup . At the Winter Universiade 2011 she was the skip of the Great Britain team and won the gold medal.

As third in Eve Muirhead's team, she won the gold medal at the 2009 and 2011 Junior World Curling Championships . Since the 2011/2012 season she has played permanently as third in this team. She won the 2013 women's curling world championship and finished third at the 2017 world championship . At the European Championships she won two gold medals ( 2011 and 2017 ), four silver medals ( 2010 , 2012 , 2013 and 2015 ) and two bronze medals ( 2014 and 2016 ).

In 2014 she took part with the British team (Skip: Eve Muirhead, Second: Vicki Adams , Lead: Claire Hamilton , Substitute: Lauren Gray ) at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and won the game for third place against the Swiss team from Mirjam Ott the bronze medal.

Sloan represented Great Britain at the 2018 Winter Olympics with Eve Muirhead, Vicki Adams and Lauren Gray . With a third place after the Round Robin she moved into the final round, but suffered two defeats there against Sweden (Skip: Anna Hasselborg ) in the semi-finals and against Japan (Skip: Satsuki Fujisawa ) in the game for third place and finally finished fourth .

She played in Team Muirhead very successfully on the World Curling Tour and has won numerous competitions there.

In the summer of 2018, she announced her preliminary retirement from the sport of curling. She will be replaced by Jennifer Dodds on the Muirhead team .

Private life

Sloan graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a degree in Sport and Active Lifestyle Promotions . In 2014 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from her university.
