Annemarie C. Mayer (* 1967 in Weingarten, Württemberg ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and university professor . She is professor of systematic theology (dogmatics and fundamental theology) and religious studies at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).

Her chair is for "Theology, Religion and Contemporary Culture". Her research interests extend to theology of the Trinity, Christology and the doctrine of God across the centuries, also in the light of other monotheistic religions, to polemics, controversial theology and dialogue of religions in the Middle Ages, especially with Raimundus Lullus (Ramon Llull), to theology of religions, various modern approaches interreligious dialogue and contemporary developments in Catholic-Muslim dialogue. Furthermore, she conducts research on the topic of 'Church as a place of conveyance of faith in post-secular contexts', the analysis of the changing ecclesiastical landscape in Europe and worldwide, and the mission and mission of the Church today. Her interest in ecclesiology from an ecumenical perspective is paired with studies on ecumenical hermeneutics, the World Council of Churches, the bilateral dialogues of the Catholic Church with churches of the Reformation, doctrine of justification and soteriology in the Lutheran and Reformed context.

Until 2013 she was consultor of the Roman Catholic Church at the World Council of Churches (World Council of Churches ) in Geneva , where she worked in the field of world mission and evangelization . She was a member of the 9th Joint Working Group between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches. In November 2013, it was a member of the Vatican delegation to the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Busan ( Republic of Korea ). As the only woman worldwide on the Catholic side, she was a member of the International Reformed-Catholic Dialogue Commission (4th phase: Justification and Sacramentality: The Christian Community as an Agent for Justice).

On the Catholic side she is currently coordinating the subgroup on peace work of the 10th Joint Working Group between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches and is a co-opted member of the Commission Nationale Catholique pour l'Œcumenisme of the Belgian Bishops' Conference . Since March 2018 she has been the Canon of Honor at the Anglican Cathedral in Chichester, UK

She is responsible for systematic theology on the editorial board of Louvain Studies . At the magazine Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses she shares this task with Joseph Famerée and Olivier Riaudel from Louvain-la-Neuve. Together with Sven-Erik Brodd, Christine Hall and Daniel Inman she is academic editor at the International Journal for the Study of the Christian Church .

In addition to theology , she studied Greek and Latin philology in Tübingen , Oxford and Rome . Her doctorate was in the field of ecumenical hermeneutics , her habilitation on interreligious dialogue in the Middle Ages on the Iberian Peninsula . Her research interests focus on ecclesiology in an ecumenical context. Her areas of expertise include interreligious dialogue, ecumenical research, ecumenical theology and dogmatics .

She taught fundamental theology at the University of Friborg in Switzerland. Until 2010 she taught at the Institute for Ecumenical Research of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen and at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim .

From 2008 to 2013 she was a member of the advisory board of the working group of German-speaking dogmatists and fundamental theologians. She works in the following national and international research groups: interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Religion and Worldview (Kosmoi), Louvain Center for Eastern and Oriental Christianity (LOCEOC), Center for the Study of the Second Vatican Council, Cardinal Willebrands Research Center.

In 2011 she was one of the Catholic delegation members of the 2nd seminar of the Catholic-Muslim Forum . In 2013 she was a member of the Islamic-Catholic Lisaison Committee of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue . In 2017 she was the Catholic delegate of the joint dialogue committee between the al-Azhar al Sharif Center for Dialogue, Cairo, Egypt, and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue on the topic of "The role of al-Azhar al Sharif and of the Vatican in countering the phenomenon of fanaticism, extremism and violence in the name of religion ".
