Annette Sabban

Annette Sabban (born March 28, 1953 in Klein Bülten ; † March 31, 2019 in Lüneburg ) was a German linguist and translation scholar . She taught as a university professor for applied linguistics and Romance studies at the Institute for Translation Studies and Specialized Communication at the University of Hildesheim .

Life

Annette Sabban studied English , Romance Studies and Sinology at the Universities of Hamburg and Edinburgh as well as psychology as a second degree at the University of Hamburg . She passed state examinations for teaching at grammar school in English and French. At the University of Saarland she received her doctorate in 1981. phil. in English Linguistics. The title of her doctoral thesis is Gaelic-English Language Contact. On the variability of English in the Gaelic-speaking area of ​​Scotland. An empirical study . After receiving her doctorate, she worked from 1981 to 1985 as an editor for foreign language courses at Ernst Klett Verlag in Stuttgart. From 1985 to 1991 she was a temporary academic adviser at the Institute for Romance Philology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There she completed her habilitation in 1992 in Romance Philology with the text Occasional Variations of Linguistic Schematisms. An analysis of French and German press and advertising texts .

After her habilitation, she worked from 1992 to 1995 as a temporary assistant at the Institute for Romance Philology in Munich. From 1993 to 1995 she represented professorships for Romance linguistics at the University of Heidelberg and at the University of Munich. In 1995 she accepted a professorship for Applied Linguistics and Romance Studies at the University of Hildesheim . In 2001 she held a DAAD visiting professorship and in 2005 an Erasmus short-term lecturer in Helsinki . In 2006 she completed another visiting professorship at the University of Paris VII .
