Wulf Oesterreicher

Wulf Oesterreicher (born December 2, 1942 in Oberbaumgarten , South Moravia; † August 7, 2015 in Gundelfingen- Wildtal) was a German Romance studies , Hispanic , linguist and university lecturer .

Life

Wulf Austrians grew after the expulsion of his family from the Moravian homeland in Esslingen am Neckar on. From 1962 he studied in Tübingen , where he was influenced by the personality Eugenio Coserius . He passed his first state examination in 1969 in German and French. In 1977 he was born by Hans-Martin Gauger in Freiburg i.Br. with a dissertation on language theory and theory of linguistics doctorate , 1989 took place the Habilitation ibid. One of his research fields was the oral “language of proximity”, the spoken language, in contrast to the written “language of distance”.

With his friend Peter Koch he wrote the book Spoken Language in Romania "word for word formulated together" . French, Italian, Spanish , published in 1990 by Niemeyer in Tübingen, which received a strong response. As a Hispanist he devoted himself to a. the early reports from the New World and the question of how authors who came to the Spanish colonies and lived there as actors rather than learned writers understood how to tell this world.

From 1991 to 1994 Oesterreicher was associate professor (C3), from 1994 to 2010 he held the linguistic chair for Romance Philology (C4) at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . His students and former employees include Elisabeth Stark (Zurich), Roland Schmidt-Riese (Eichstätt), Uli Reich (FU Berlin) and his successor at the Munich chair, Andreas Dufter .

From 1997 to 2001 Oesterreicher was chairman of the German Romanists Association (DRV) . From 2002 to 2008 he acted as spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 573 “Pluralization and Authority in the Early Modern Age”.

Oesterreicher has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2003 and of the German Academy for Language and Poetry since 2010 .
