Anny Hannewald (born February 20, 1882 in Frankfurt am Main ; † February 29, 1968 there ) was a German theater actress .

Life

Anny Hannewald was born in Frankfurt's Ostend as the daughter of a light bulb manufacturer and grew up in Bockenheim, which was still independent at the time. She attended the Ursuline School in Königstein and had been taking acting lessons from Thessa Klinkhammer since she was 16 .

In 1902 she got her first engagement as a youthful naive at the Hanau City Theater, later at the Royal Court Theater in Kassel . Her most important roles included the puck in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Käthchen von Heilbronn by Heinrich von Kleist . For family reasons, she interrupted her theater career in 1910 and from then on worked as a nurse .

In 1920 she returned to the theater. Until 1929 she had a permanent engagement at the New Theater in Frankfurt, which at that time was under the direction of Arthur Hellmer . During the summer holidays she played at the Rhein-Mainischer Verbandstheater and on guest tours. After several years of guest appearances at various stages, including in Bern , she came to the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt , where she stayed until shortly before her death.

Anny Hannewald was a popular folk actress . Together with Carl Luley and Else Knott , she shaped Frankfurt theater life in the 1950s as part of the Alt-Frankfurt Trio . Ms. Funk in Adolf Stoltze's Schwank Alt-Frankfurt and Ms. Dummbach in Ernst Elias Niebergall's Datterich were important roles . She became known nationwide through her work for the Hessischer Rundfunk ; they played, for example, in 1949 the first Mama Hesselbach in the radio production of Hesselbach family of Wolf Schmidt .
