3.9 Marbach power plant

The connecting line to the Marbach power plant is a former connecting line in the Ludwigsburg district in Baden-Württemberg . The normal-gauge route led to the Marbach power plant , which is located on the boundary of the Marbach neighboring community of Benningen am Neckar .

history

The railway line was built in 1938/39, was around 3.9 kilometers long and branched off the narrow-gauge Bottwartalbahn 1.49 kilometers north of the Marbach (Neckar) station using a hairpin . This was previously expanded to three tracks specifically for this purpose . In the further course, the connecting railway followed the right bank of the Neckar upstream. The respective power plant owner acted as operator, most recently EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg .

A special feature of the route was the service passenger traffic for employees of the power plant, which was carried out several times a day until December 30, 1982 . The starting point for this traffic was the Neckarsteg stop near the city, at today's ship landing stage. In addition to the former Ernst & Meißner leather factory, there was the Eichgraben intermediate stop with an approximately five-meter-long short platform for the power plant employees living in the Eichgraben and Hörnle residential areas.

At the turn of the millennium, the last freight trains drove to the power station. Since then, the heating oil for the power plant has only been delivered by ship. The last run of a train on the railway was on June 30th, 2002 by the Society for the Preservation of Rail Vehicles (GES) with a special train. In the spring of 2016, the route between the Häldenmühle group sewage treatment plant and the power plant was converted into an asphalt railway cycle path . For this purpose, the bridge over the state road 1100 was replaced by a new, lighter construction.

vehicles

The following vehicles were used on the power station railway:

A four-axle express train car with open platforms and the designation CCi 4918, which had 88 seats, was available for passenger transport . It was delivered to the Royal Württemberg State Railways in 1902 by the Esslingen machine factory and was added to the connecting railway in 1950. It was pushed in the direction of the power station as an introductory car and therefore had a triple headlights and a window in the platform door that was subsequently installed. After the service passenger traffic was discontinued in 1983, it came to the Kuckucksbähnel .
