Antônio Tourinho Neto

Antônio Tourinho Neto (born January 9, 1964 in Jequié , Bahia ) is a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Cruz das Almas .

Life

Antônio Tourinho Neto studied at the Catholic University of Salvador and at the Theological Institute of the Archdiocese of Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro , where he in 1990 the licentiate in canon law earned. On January 20, 1990, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Jequié .

In the following years he was among other things as a marriage bond defender , promoter justitiae and judge at the diocesan court and the tribunal of the northeast region III of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference . From 1994 to 2009 he was cathedral priest at the Cathedral of Santo Antônio in Jequié and from 1999 to 2007 and in 2012 he was chancellor of the diocesan curia.

At times he was responsible for vocational pastoral care in the Diocese of Jequié and was spiritual director of various church works and movements, such as the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the state of Bahia. For ten years he was also the ecclesiastical assistant of the secular institute of St. Angela Merici and for some time regional coordinator of the Fazenda da Esperança and spiritual of the diocesan seminary John Paul II. From 2010 to 2014 he was pastor in Brejões .

On 12 November 2014 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Satafi and auxiliary bishop in Olinda e Recife . He was ordained episcopate on January 17th of the following year by the Bishop of Jequié, José Ruy Gonçalves Lopes OFMCap . Co- consecrators were the former bishop of Jequié, Cristian Jakob Krapf , and the archbishop of Olinda e Recife, Antônio Fernando Saburido OSB .

On November 22, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him the first bishop of the diocese of Cruz das Almas, which was established on the same date . The inauguration took place on January 28 of the following year.
