José Ruy Gonçalves Lopes
José Ruy Gonçalves Lopes OFMCap (born August 6, 1967 in Feira de Santana ) is a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Caruaru .
Life
José Ruy Lopes came in February 1985, the religious order of the Capuchin in, put on 10 January 1988, the profession , and received on 5 December 1993, the priestly ordination . Immediately after his ordination, he became pastor in Valéria, a district of Salvador (Bahia) , and spiritual supervisor of the leprosy of his order in Águas Claras, also Salvador (Bahia). From 1995 to 1998 he was the definitor and economist of his order province and was responsible for the pastoral care of vocations and the care of the juniors of the order after the novitiate . From 2002 to 2007 he was Provincial Minister and from 2002 to 2004 he was Vice-President of the Ministerial Conference of the Capuchins in Brazil.
In 2007 he began a one-year postgraduate course in moral theology at the University of São Paulo . He then worked as a member of the International Capuchin Training Council and sat on the board of directors of the Obras Sociais de Irmã Dulce (OSID) social welfare organization . Until his appointment as bishop, he also taught moral theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia and ran a school in his native Feira de Santana.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 4, 2012 Bishop of Jequié . He was ordained episcopate on September 7th of the same year by the Bishop of Salgueiro , Magnus Henrique Lopes, OFMCap. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop Emeritus of São Salvador da Bahia , Geraldo Majella Cardinal Agnelo , and the Bishop of Campina Grande , Manoel Delson Pedreira da Cruz OFMCap.
On July 10, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Caruaru. The inauguration took place on September 21 of the same year.
