Ant , also called Ahnd or And , is a small atoll in the Pacific Ocean about 10 km southwest of the western reef rim of the Micronesian island of Pohnpei . Together with Pohnpei and the Pakin Atoll to the north, Ant forms the group of Senjawin Islands .

geography

The almost rectangular atoll is 11 km long and up to 9 km wide. 13 small, but mostly overgrown motus can be found on the narrow southern and eastern fringing reef as well as in a single place in the northwest of the atoll ( Wolauna Island ). There is a passage to the deep lagoon in the southeast ( Tauenai Channel ).

The islets of Nikalap Aru in the southeast (46.6 hectares), Pamuk in the southwest (60.1 hectares) and Patya in the east (18.6 hectares), which together make up two-thirds of the island, belong to the somewhat "larger" land masses of the Ant Atoll Unite the land area of the atoll. The uninhabited atoll is privately owned.

The total area of the atoll is 99 km². The lagoon is up to 67 meters deep.

In the southeast of the atoll, the Tauenai Passage, 90 meters wide and 15.2 m deep at the shallowest point, leads into the lagoon.

The atoll is uninhabited. In 1986 a family was reported who lived on the main island of Nikelap Aru and produced copra for sale.
