Pakin is a small atoll in the Pacific Ocean about 30 km northwest of the western reef rim of the Micronesian island of Pohnpei . Pakin forms together with Pohnpei and the Ant Atoll located 26 km to the south, the group of Senjawin Islands .

The narrow atoll is around 10 km long and up to 3.6 km wide. Four overgrown islands can be found on the southeast fringing reef; However , Nikalap , the largest island in the atoll, is located in the northwest corner of Pakin.

The total area of ​​the atoll is 24 km². The lagoon is up to 55 meters deep.

There is only one boat passage into the lagoon on the southwest side of the atoll.

history

The Atoll Pakëin is historically mentioned as an earlier section of Sokehs proper (the actual part of Sokehs, which is mainly located on the island of the same name, in contrast to the part of Palikir , which is on the island of Pohnpei). A distinction is made here between Sokehs proper (island Sokehs, in the north), and Palikir as the part of Sokehs located on the main island of Pohnpei ( Ponape ).
