Antoine Bernheim

Antoine Bernheim (born September 4, 1924 in Paris ; † June 5, 2012 there ) was a French banker and business manager .

Life

Bernheim, son of the Jewish attorney Léonce Bernheim, who died in Auschwitz-Birkenau , and Renée-Marcelle Schwob d'Héricourt, who came from a well-known family of bankers and industrialists, began his professional career in 1951 as a manager at the cosmetics company Bourjois , which the related family Wertheimer belonged to him.

In 1967 he moved to Banque Lazard Frères & Co. as managing partner and worked there until 2005. In addition, from 1972 to 1997 he was President-directeur général (PDG) of the insurer La France . Bernheim, who was a co-founder of the Euromarché supermarket chain in 1968 , was also President-directeur général of this company from 1981 until it was taken over by Carrefour SA in 1991. He also played an important role in the formation of the groups of Bernard Arnault , François Pinault and Vincent Bolloré .

He was also active on the boards of Italian companies and, among other things, from 1988 to 2003 he was vice-president of the credit institute Mediobanca SpA. In 1995 he became president of the insurance group Assicurazioni Generali SpA for the first time and held this position until 1999. In 2002 he was again president of this group and held it Holds position until April 24, 2010 when he was replaced by Cesare Geronzi . Most recently he was also a member of the Supervisory Board of Generali Germany .

Bernheim, who was also a member of the influential Le Siècle Club , was awarded several medals and among other things became Grand Officer in 1995 and Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2008 , Commander of the Brazilian Order of the Southern Cross in 1999, Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des in 2006 Lettres and on July 13, 2007 with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor.
