Antoine Kambanda

Antoine Kambanda (born November 10, 1958 in Nyamata ) is a Rwandan clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kigali .

Life

Antoine Kambanda was born in Rwanda on November 10, 1958 , but shortly after his birth he moved with his family to Kenya , where he attended elementary and middle school. He later returned to his homeland and attended the Great Propaedeutic Seminary in Rutongo , Kigali (1983/84) and the St. Charles Great Seminary in Nyakibanda in Butare (1984/90).

On September 8, 1990, he was in Mbare (Kabgayi) of Pope John Paul II. For priests ordained . He was then prefect of studies (1990/93) at the St. Vincent Minor Seminary in Ndera (Kigali). He attended the Alphonsian Academy in Rome (1993/99), where he in specialized moral theology doctorate was. From 1999 to 2005 he was head of the diocesan office of Caritas in Kigali, head of the development committee of the diocese, head of the "Justitia et Pax" commission of the diocese, professor of moral theology and visitor to the Major Seminary in Nyakibanda.

On September 6, 2005, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe , Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , appointed him Rector of the Great Interdiocesan Philosophical Seminary in Kabgayi.

Pope Francis appointed Kambanda Bishop of Kibungo on May 7, 2013 . The Archbishop of Kigali , Thaddée Ntihinyurwa donated him episcopal ordination on July 20 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Kabgayi , Smaragde Mbonyintege , and the Bishop of Butare , Philippe Rukamba .

On November 19, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Kigali.
