Antoine d'Aumont de Rochebaron (* 1601 - 11 January 1669 ), marquis de Villequier , Isle-Aumont, Nolay, Chappes , comte de Berzé , baron d'Estrabonnes, duc d'Aumont and Pair de France , was a French Military and aristocrat .

He was a captain lieutenant in the Garde du corps du roi and Maréchal de France . He left behind the “Hôtel d'Aumont”, which still exists today, in the Rue de Jouy in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, south of the Quartier du Marais .

Life

He was the second son of Jacques d'Aumont and Charlotte de Villequier and was thus the grandson of Jean VI. d'Aumont , Maréchal de France, and Antoinette Chabot (great niece of Francis I ).

He came to the court of Louis XIII as a child . and earned his first military spurs under the care of Seigneur de Chappes and his father during the siege of Montauban in 1621 .

In 1627 he was wounded by a musket ball in the battle at the Bridge of Feneau on the Île de Ré . He then took part in the siege of La Rochelle in 1628 and fought on March 6, 1629 in battle at the Pass of Suze.

In 1633 the King appointed him commandant of the Garde du corps and appointed him Chevalier du Saint-Esprit .

1636 Governor of Boulogne , the following year he captured Fort Mont Hulin, which was occupied by 700 Spaniards. He then served in the siege of Hesdin in 1639 , in 1640 in the siege of Arras and in 1641 in the siege of Aire-sur-la-Lys .

Appointed lieutenant-général , he was involved in the capture of Courtrai , the siege of Fort Mardyck and the siege of Dunkirk in 1646 . In 1647 he was at the siege of Lens and in action at Estaires . In 1848, d'Aumont was still fighting in the Battle of Lens . In 1650 he was used as the commander of the right wing in the battle of Rethel . His successful troop leadership was causally decisive for the success in the battle and brought him on January 5, 1650 the title of "Maréchal de France".

In 1662 he was appointed military governor of Paris and in 1665 he was made Pair de France .

In 1667 he accompanied the king in the war of devolution on the campaign in Flanders , where he commanded the corps on the coast under the command of Viscount Turenne . On his return he died of a stroke in Paris on January 11, 1669.

Marriage and offspring

He married Catherine Scaron de Vaures († November 1691), niece of Paul Scarron , with whom he had four children:

  2. Charles d'Aumont, abbot in the monastery "Saint-Pierre" in Uzerche († 1695)
  3. Elisabeth († January 27, 1717) ⚭ 1661 Charles Comte de Broglio, Governor of Avesnes, Lieutenant-général des armées du roi
  4. Catherine-Marie d'Aumont, abbess of the monastery "Saint-Julien du Pré" in Mans († 1708)
