Anton Aschenbrenner

Anton Aschenbrenner (* 1962 in Roding ) is a former Catholic priest. He became known for his autobiographical book, which tells of his decision for his family and thus against the church. The book was on the Spiegel bestseller list for 14 weeks .

Life

Aschenbrenner studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Passau and Würzburg from 1982 to 1987 . As a graduate theologian, he was interested in pastoral psychology . In 1987 he was ordained a Catholic deacon , in 1988 a Catholic priest. From 1988 to 2000 he was a high school teacher . From 1991 to 2003 he was pastor in Hintereben . In 1994 he got to know the teacher Birgit Süßke, his current wife, who moved in with him a year later at the parsonage.

It was because of his marriage to Birgit Süßke early 2003 suspended . He resigned from the Catholic Church and was excommunicated when he joined the Evangelical Church in 2003 . In 2005 he resigned from the Protestant Church. The couple have two daughters, the older one was born in 2003.

Aschenbrenner has been working as a freelance theologian, lecturer and ceremonial officer for free weddings since 2003 . He blesses newlyweds and children who are not officially baptized, accompanies terminally ill people on their last life, holds funeral ceremonies in natural cemeteries and in crematoriums where the official church representatives do not go. In 2007 he initiated a weeping forest in Bayerisch Eisenstein in the Bavarian Forest National Park .

On March 14, 2013, he was featured on the cover of Sterns magazine and on March 20, 2013 in the TV talk show Markus Lanz . On May 14, 2014 he and his wife were invited to the talk show Markus Lanz. On March 3, 2016, he was seen in the episode Forbidden Love - A Priest and Celibacy on the television program Planet Wissen .
