Hintereben is located in the Bavarian Forest about three kilometers northwest of Jandelsbrunn and about five kilometers northeast of Waldkirchen .

history

Hintereben is one of the so-called Seven Künische Villages , which are called because of their 260-year membership in Austria and thus to the Habsburgs (royal = Künisch). It was not until 1765 that Prince-Bishop Leopold Ernst Graf von Firmian bought this area for 137,787  guilders , but without Rannariedl Castle , which exercised the manorial rule over these localities.

In 1803, the majority of the Passau area was backed up by Ferdinand III in favor of the Electorate of Salzburg . Secularized by Tuscany and fell to Bavaria in 1805 . With the formation of the municipalities in 1818 due to the second Bavarian municipality edict of 17 May 1818, the community was formed Hintereben. This emerged from Section II Hinterben of the tax district Althütten. It belonged to the District Court of Wegscheid, which was formed in 1806 until the newly established District Court of Waldkirchen was created by ordinance of February 25, 1862, as well as to the Wolfstein District Office, which was also created in 1862 and which became the Wolfstein District in 1939 . Originally consisting only of back vines and cold water, the community grew over time through several new settlements. The community received a further increase on January 1, 1946, when a large part of the dissolved community of Stadl Hintereben was allocated. The community of Hintereben included the villages of Hintereben, Binderhügel, Dachelwies, Duschlwies, Edhäusel, Höllmühle, Kaltwasser, Mösing, Neufang, Ödhof, Poppenreut, Reichermühle, Reichling, Saghäuser, Sagmühle, Schlag, Voglöd and Vordereben. She came to the municipality of Jandelsbrunn on January 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

The pastoral care district ( Expositur ) Hintereben was established in 1899 from parts of the Wollaberg parish . In 1921 the elevation to parish took place .
