Anton Füster

Anton Füster (also Anton Fister ) (born January 5, 1808 in Radmannsdorf in Krain , † March 12, 1881 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician and theologian.

Life

Anton Füster studied philosophy and theology in Laibach and Trieste and then taught as a religion professor in Gorizia . In 1847 he was appointed professor of religion and education at the University of Vienna , where he also worked as a university preacher. He took an active part in the 1848 revolution and was field chaplain of the Academic Legion . Füster was a member of the Reichstag ; after its dissolution in 1849, he fled to America via England. He was sentenced to death in absentia in 1856. He only returned to Europe in 1876.

In a contemporary diary, a mocking verse is handed down to Anton Füster:

"Oh! Doesn't disturb him in his happiness / His gaze rests on cobblestones,
And he kisses a barricade lady / The professor, Father, Deputy Füster. "

Grave of Anton Füster at the Vienna Central Cemetery

Füsterweg in the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt, was named after him in 1932 , and he was also given an honorary grave at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
