Anton Oleksandrowytsch Kasakow ( Ukrainian Антон Олександрович Казаков , English transcription: Anton Kazakov ; born  November 8, 2004 ) is a Ukrainian snooker player from Dnipro . He became Ukrainian champion in 2019 .

Career

Pool

Anton Kazakow initially played pool . As a ten-year-old, he took part in the Ukrainian Junior Championship for the first time in summer 2015 and reached the quarter-finals in the 14/1 endless and 9-ball disciplines . A year later he won his first medal by reaching the semi-finals in 14/1, in which he lost to eventual tournament winner Mykyta Rudenko (29:35). At the end of the year he took part in the national adult championship for the first time. After he was knocked out endlessly in the preliminary round in 14/1, he won the bronze medal in 8-Ball when he made it to the semifinals, but there lost to Arsen Petrosov (5: 7). Then he also came under the top 4 in 9-ball and this time lost his semifinals against the then 8-ball European champion Vitaly Pazura (5: 8). In the 10-ball competition, however, he missed the entry into the finals.

In July 2017, Kazakov achieved another podium finish among the youth with third place in the 8-ball. In the following time he turned increasingly to snooker . It wasn't until the end of 2019 that he appeared again in pool when he finished second in the 8-ball championship in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast . A little later he won the Solar Open 2019, a supraregional 9-ball junior tournament in his hometown Dnipro, with a 5-3 final win over Ihor Ljalin .

Anton Kazakov started playing snooker at the age of 11 . At his first major tournament, the Ukrainian Independence Cup in Kiev in August 2016 , he qualified as runner-up in his group for the sixteenth-finals, in which he lost 3-1 to the eventual finalist Andrij Schulha .

In October 2017, the twelve-year-old made it to the semi-finals when he took part in the Ukrainian adult championship for the first time . After he had defeated Vitaly Pazura , among others , he lost in the semifinals with 0: 3 against Wladyslaw Wyschnewskyj . A month later he took part in the amateur world championship in Qatar for the first time , but was only able to win three frames in the four group games and was therefore eliminated from the bottom of the group. In December he reached the round of 16 at the 2017 Ukrainian Cup final, where he was only barely defeated by record winner Serhiy Issajenko (2-3).

At the beginning of 2018, Kazakow played in Sofia for the first time at the European Championship and competed in all three age groups. After he had narrowly missed the final round of the U18 juniors as third in the group, he reached the round of the last 57 in the U21 youth , in which he was defeated 1: 4 to Daniel Holoyda from Poland . In the adults he then moved into the group of thirds in the round of 72 and defeated the Northern Irishman Stephen Brady 4: 3, before he had to give the former professional Fraser Patrick a clear 1: 4 in the round of 64 .

At the Ukrainian championship in 2018 he reached the semi-finals again and lost there again to Wladyslaw Vyshnevskyi (2: 4). In October he only just missed the quarter-finals when he took part in the Baltic Snooker League in Kiev for the first time . At the 2018 Ukrainian Cup final, Kazakov reached the semi-finals after defeating defending champion Serhij Issajenko (3-1), but defeated the eventual titleholder Alan Trigg 3-4 .

In February 2019, Kazakov won a tournament of the Ukrainian Cup for the first time when he beat Dmytro Ossypenko 4-1 in the opening tournament of the 2019 series in the final . A little later he achieved his best result to date at the U18 European Championship , when he made it to the quarter-finals with victories against Bulcsú Révész and Eelis Lappalainen , in which he was defeated 2: 4 by the Irish Ross Bulman . He then reached the round of 32 at the U21 European Championship and lost 4-1 to Florian Nüßle . In the men's group , however, he just missed making it to the finals as third party, although he was the only player in his group to win against the three-time Austrian champion Andreas Ploner .

In May 2019, Kazakov made it into the final of the Ukrainian 6-Red Championship . In the final he lost 5-0 to Wladyslaw Wyschnewskyj, who won the tournament for the fourth time in a row. The following day Kazakow and Vyshnevskyj were together Ukrainian team champions after they had prevailed in the final against Wadym Korjahin and Serhiy Petrasch . At the end of the month Kazakov reached the round of 32 at the 6-Red European Championship , in which he lost 4-2 to 2017 winner Kristján Helgason . In the summer of 2019 he reached the last 16 at the Baltic Snooker League stop in Lviv and was eliminated in the first round of the Independence Cup .

In September 2019, at the age of 14 years, 10 months and 22 days, Kazakov became the youngest player to become Ukrainian champions . In the final, Kazakov, who had only lost one frame in the course of the tournament (in the round of 16 against record champions Serhiy Issajenko), defeated defending champion Wladyslaw Vysnevskyi 4-0, against whom he had been eliminated in the semifinals in the previous two years. At the end of the year he reached the semi-finals of the final tournament of the Ukrainian Cup and was defeated there by the eventual winner Julian Bojko (1: 3).

At the beginning of 2020, Kazakov reached the round of 16 at the WSF Junior Open after winning against Antoni Kowalski and Luis Vetter , among others , but lost 3-0 to Kreishh Gurbaxani from India . Shortly afterwards he was eliminated from the WSF Open with just one win in the preliminary round. In February 2020, Kazakov reached the semi-finals of the Ukrainian 6-Red Championship and lost there to eventual tournament winner Julian Boyko (3: 4).
