Anton Stingl jun.
Anton Stingl jun. (* May 13, 1940 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German senior student councilor i. R., church musician and musicologist with a focus on Gregorian semiology .

Origin and childhood
Anton Maria Johannes Stingl was born on May 13, 1940 in Freiburg as the eldest son of the Freiburg guitarist and guitar professor Anton Stingl and Charlotte Stingl (née Morlock). He grew up with two sisters and a brother, first on Hansjakobstrasse and then on Hammerschmiedstrasse in Freiburg-Waldsee . His father did not come back from Russia as a prisoner of war until 1949.
education
After primary school, Stingl attended the humanistic Berthold grammar school in Freiburg. After graduating from high school in 1959, he prepared for the entrance exam at the Freiburg University of Music . He then took up the study of school and church music and graduated in 1964 from the State University of Music with the A-exam. In 1965 he graduated from musicology and in 1966 he graduated in mathematics from the University of Freiburg. Since there were only three positions for church musicians in the Archdiocese of Freiburg at that time, he went to school.
He completed the first term of teacher training at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Lahr / Schwarzwald, the second at the Kepler-Gymnasium in Freiburg and the third at the Friedrich-Gymnasium , also in Freiburg.
Employment
He took up his first position as a grammar school teacher in 1967 at the Windeck grammar school in Bühl / Baden. A change to the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Freiburg took place in 1977. There he taught mathematics and music and led the lower school choir and instrumental group until 1990. From 1990 to 1994 he was a music and mathematics teacher at the Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium and until his retirement in 2003, Stingl taught at the Wentzinger-Gymnasium in Freiburg.
Church music
Anton Stingl was already active as organist and choir director towards the end of his music studies at the State University of Music in Freiburg and has since held the following positions:
- 1963–1965: Activity as cathedral organist on weekdays and at weddings at Freiburg Cathedral
- 1963–1965: Choir director and organist in Bollschweil-St.-Ulrich
- 1966–1967: Choirmaster in St. Blasius , Freiburg-Zähringen
- 1968–1969: Choirmaster in St. Maria, Kehl
- 1970: Organist in St. Peter and Paul in Bühl
- 1971–1977: Organist in St. Maria, Bühl-Kappelwindeck
- 1976–1977: Choirmaster in St. Gallus in Bühl-Altschweier
- 1978–1988: organist and choirmaster in St. Peter and Paul , Freiburg-St.-Georgen
- 1989–1992: organist and choir director in St. Stephan, Freiburg-Munzingen
Since 1992 he has been working as a freelance organist in various churches in the Freiburg area, and since 2003 regularly and voluntarily in St. Gallus, Merzhausen .
Gregorian chant
In addition to his work as a high school teacher and organist and choir director, Anton Stingl founded the Choralschola Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in 1988 , which was later renamed Choralschola Freiburg. From 1994 to 2006 he was also Schola Magister at the Freiburg Minster.
With the Choralschola Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Freiburg, he organized Sunday services and concerts in many communities in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald region.
Since 2010 Stingl has been a member of the restitution group in the German section of the International Society for the Study of Gregorian Chant (AISCGre) .
