Anton Jacob Werres (born January 1, 1830 in Cologne ; † April 27, 1900 there ) was a German sculptor .

Life

His father Carl Anton Werres (born September 4, 1785 in Cologne ; † September 30, 1836 there ) was a well-known doctor, ophthalmologist, physician and non-fiction author. Anton Werres did an apprenticeship with the Cologne sculptor Peter Joseph Imhoff and worked for Christian Mohr 's company. From 1851 to 1857 he studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. He was a master student with Gustav Blaeser . From 1858 to 1867 study visit to Rome . Since 1868 mainly active in Cologne, where he created six pillar figures in the nave of Cologne Cathedral . Numerous monuments and tombs in the Melaten cemetery also remind of his work.
