Anton Zimmermann (politician)

Anton Zimmermann (born August 11, 1912 in Stotzing , Burgenland ; † March 14, 2001 in Oberpullendorf , Burgenland) was an Austrian doctor and politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Anton Zimmermann, who grew up in Stotzing, also attended elementary school here from 1918 to 1923 . In 1931 he graduated from the Bundesrealgymnasium in Eisenstadt . After two semesters in which he studied philology , he changed the subject and studied medicine at the University of Vienna until 1939 . After briefly working as an assistant doctor in the Rudolfstiftung in the Vienna district of Landstrasse in 1939 , Zimmermann served as a medical officer in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War .

After Zimmermann had worked as a doctor for a few months in the Floridsdorf Hospital and again for the Rudolf Foundation after the war , he opened his own practice in Oberpullendorf in 1947. His area of ​​expertise was lung diseases . Also in 1947 he became a medical officer for the Oberpullendorf district . He held this position until 1975.

In 1971 Zimmermann became chairman of the state health council and four years later, in 1975, medical director of Burgenland.

In 1976 Zimmermann received the honorary title of Hofrat , in 1977 that of the Medical Council .

His political career began as a member of the SP community council in Oberpullendorf. In May 1964 he became a member of the Federal Council , which he was to belong to until April 1968.
