Anton von Heiligenstein

Anton von Heiligenstein (Latinized Antonius de Heiligenstein ; * after April 1804 in Mannheim ; † April 24, 1834 in Heidelberg ) was a German mathematician , astronomer and university professor .

Heiligenstein was the son of the court judge Conrad von Heiligenstein . Where he received his early education is unknown. On October 30, 1824, he enrolled in the subject of mathematics at Heidelberg University . He stayed there for about a year. On October 23, 1825, he was then enrolled at the University of Göttingen . At this university doctorate he 1829 Dr. phil. with the dissertation Methodos elevationem poli astronomice determinandi sistens .

Heiligenstein returned to his home country, the Heidelberg University, in the year of his doctorate. There he completed his habilitation in mathematics and astronomy and taught as a private lecturer from 1829 until his untimely death in 1834. He died suddenly of a hemorrhage . Heiligenstein worked on the Berlin Astronomical Yearbooks and made outstanding contributions to Ceres research.
