Antonia Michaelis

Antonia Michaelis (* 1979 in Kiel ) is a German writer for books for children and young people as well as fiction and theater plays.

Life and professional history

Antonia Michaelis was born in Kiel in 1979 and spent the first two years of her life in a small village on the Baltic Sea . She then moved with her parents to Augsburg , where she wrote her first stories as a child. After graduating from high school near St. Anna (Augsburg) , she taught English , art education and acting at a school near Madras in southern India for a year. She then studied medicine at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald .

In addition to her two longer stays in India, Antonia Michaelis made numerous trips to Italy , Greece , Syria , England and Turkey, among others . Here she gathered knowledge and experience that shaped her books in many different ways. So she was inspired by English literary history for her children's novel The Wonderful Journey of Oliver and Twist . In addition, Tiger Moon is thematically based on Michaelis' time in India .

Michaelis also has several series such as Kreuzberg 007 (code word 007) and the Ammerlo series, a case for Katz and Ella Fuchs .

The book for young people, Der Märchenerzähler , appeared in several literary blogs at 64th place on the list of the 100 most popular books in Germany . The original source of this list is not verified.

Antonia Michaelis is also the author of several plays for children and young people, which were written for the Montessori School Greifswald , the Dunstkreis16 Greifswald and the special school Janusz-Korczak Wolgast , among others .

A large number of her books have been translated into Chinese, Danish, English, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish, among others.

Several of the children's and young people's books have also been published as audio books. The youth novel Der Märchenerzähler was placed on the hr2 audio book best list in June 2012 .

Antonia Michaelis lives in Zemitz , a community across from the island of Usedom .
